Currently, you should be reading Huckleberry Finn. We will read some of Chapter 8 in class tomorrow.
You have turned in your first draft of your "values" paper and had a one-to-one conference with me. Your second draft is due no later than Monday, November 4, sent to my email [email protected]. You must schedule and complete a conference with me on this draft no later than Thursday, November 7. My office hours are posted to the right and other times may be available by arrangement. It is your responsibility to ensure you have completed the conference.
Nice work on the papers so far. I'm excited to read the next drafts. Many of you found that you are now working from really good thesis statements toward a more analytical thes
I have adjusted the assignment on the Fredrick Douglass letter. Read the Preface, the Letter from Wendell Phillips, and Chapters 1-6. The main thing to look for is the contrast between the voice, tone, and content of the writing of a former slave with that of the language of Jim, the slave portrayed in Huckleberry Finn. Consider not only the obvious, superficial reasons for the differences, but also the possible more subtle reasons.
